The breakfast

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

You can take the breakfast from 7h30 to 10h30 AM either at the Samana or the Hispaniola restaurants (depending on the period but both aren’t opened at the same time for the breakfast).

First thing for the breakfast, you can enjoy a fresh orange juice prepared in front of you. After that and based on your appetite, you can eat salted or sugared, or even both if you are very hungry. There is a big choice. On the salted side, you can have bacon, scrambled or boiled eggs and sausages. On the sugared side, you have fruits (mango, ananas, …), viennese buns (black and white chocolate break, croissant), pan-cakes, donuts and yaourts. Finally, you can drink coffee, tea, chocolate and juices. My favorite juice is called “punch fruits”. It is a very special one.

The only limitation is the choice of jams. It is a bit restricted from my point of view. You can only have strawberry, bilberry, apricot and honey. But honestly, the breakfast at the Club is way more excellent than what I could have at home. It is a great time in the day. If I had to remind only one thing, it would be the white chocolate bread. I am not a big fan of the white chocolate but it gives a very special sweety taste to the bread. I used to have some at every breakfast.

The Samana

Le SamanaIt is the resort main restaurant. It is located next to the lobby and the theater. It is usually closed when the resort is far from being full. It doesn’t have any view on the sea. The athmosphere is almost as in a raw cafeteria so I prefered to take the meals at the Hispaniola. The Samana is a bit noisy and dark from my point of view.

It has large buffets. The food is as diverse as at the Hispaniola. The evening themes are different from the Hispaniola so you have to choose you restaurant based on what you prefer to eat.

The Hispaniola

L’HispaniolaThe Hispaniola is the second restaurant of the resort. It is located next to the sea and the new Mini Club. This restaurant is usually the only one opened when the resort is far from being full. The point of view from this restaurant is just fantastic. You can directly enjoy the sea view from your table.

2 and 8 seats tables are available. 2 seats tables are for couples and 8 seats tables are for the ones who want to meet GO and GM.

From a food prospective, you have one long buffet for the hot meals, two for the starters, one for the desserts, one for the drinkings, one for the cheese and one for the bread. In the evening, there is usually typical buffets (Italia, Dominican Republic, Gala, …). I have even seen caviar and lobster (at will) one night.

Travel to Punta Cana

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

To travel to Punta Cana, first you need to take the plane. From Paris (France), the travel lasts more than 9 hours for the outward and more than 8 hours for the return. The flight can be achieved through the low cost company XL Airways or Air France. You need to be present 2 to 3 hours before the take off at the airport in Paris. For the return, this is the same, the Club Med will bring you to the airport 3 hours before the take off. This largely allows to complete the registration procedures within due time. The Punta Cana airport doesn’t have any air-conditioned system. There are just few fans. In case of hot temperature, it could become a bit tiring. So don’t forget to get a bottle of water before you leave the resort.

When you arrive in Punta Cana, you have to pay a tourism tax of 10$. Usually, the Club would have provided you with the required ticket to pass through the customs as you should have paid for this during the booking. After that, the GO team will be taking care of you and provide your room keys. This would allow you to go directly to your room after having completed the small path from the airport to the resort which doesn’t take more than 5 minutes with the bus. Your luggages will be brought directly to your room few minutes after your arrival.

My advise is to try to get the afternoon flight (between 1 and 4 PM). With the time difference between Paris and Punta Cana, you will arrive between 5 and 8 PM. You will be just in time to take the dinner then you can directly go to bed to sleep so that you don’t suffer too much from the time difference.

For the return, it is better to go early from the resort. The last day, it is always a short day as you need to prepare the luggages and free up the room so you wouldn’t have a lot of time to take advantage of the resort. By taking a mid day flight, you will be in Paris the day after early in the morning. Pay attention to the temperature difference, especially in winter as you will move in few hours from +30°C to 0°C, it is very special.
